ice makerWe all know that an icemaker and water dispenser in our refrigerators can be a lifesaver but also can cause more problems than you may think. Here are some tricks to try before calling a service tech into your home, which can save you money and frustration.

First thing is first- if your icemaker is not making ice take a quick look at the shutoff arm. That is the wire that raises and lowers to release the ice. If it gets caught in a raised position removing the obstruction can solve the problem rather quickly. Next up is the water supply valve. If the water is shut off it will be very hard for the unit to make ice so make sure that it is on and functioning properly. Also be sure to make sure that there are no kinks or visible damages to the water supply line because an interrupted flow of water to the icemaker will result in no ice as well.

If your ice looks and tastes like something other than ice or contains any containment here are some tips to make sure your ice is fresh and clear. It is important to occasionally clean and wash the ice bin. Unnecessary built up can often change the look and taste of your ice. If is also important to flush the water supply line to remove and hard water buildup and other containments that develop over time. Lastly be sure to replace your water filter on time and often. Your refrigerator will have a timer that goes off about every 6 months to remind you to change it. If you frequently use the dispensers it is recommended to chance the filter more often to ensure that it is working properly.
