OMG HOW DO I BUY AN AIR CONDITIONER

Here is the secret formula salesmen use to determine the correct window air conditioner to purchase………shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

1. Size of the room = multiply the length of the room by the width to calculate square feet. i.e. 10 x14 = 140

2. Size of the window, This is a must have.. Dont leave home without it!

3. Now that you have the square footage of the room it’s easy….MULTIPLY THE SQUARE FEET BY 35 for the first floor, 40 for the second floor, and 50 for 3rd and above…because HOT AIR RISES, COLD AIR FALLS.. That’s why a hot air balloon goes up, so the higher the floor the hotter it is. Same reason why the basement is cooler than the first floor.

So let’s see what we learned so far, what would it be for a room 10×14 on the first floor? LENGHT X WIDTH = 140 X BY 35= 4900 BTUs, which would be a 5000 unit. If that’s the answer you got then you are on your way to being an ac expert. NOW there are a few exceptions to this rule. Here they are!

1. BRICK.. If the house is made of brick you will want to add an extra 1000 BTUs….Brick retains the heat. Any Italian grandma would tell you her brick oven was the best ever ….

2. CEILING HEIGHT.. If the building has over a 10 foot ceiling you add 500 BTUs for every extra foot of ceiling over 10 feet…

3. “HOT AND HUMID“.. same would happen in any room that has a lot of people. Ever been to a club? When it’s packed it’s hot. So for every three people add 500 BTUs …
